About this video: ‘Sharing Knowledge with Dr Rozana Huq’ 2018

A Shift to Individualism and The importance of understanding Psychological empowerment and Self-empowerment for Leaders and CEOs.

“In a competitive global environment in which organisations are expected to provide a faster, efficient and excellent service and be the best, employee empowerment is recognised as the answer to provide these in the best possible way. However, there is concern in the business world and the literature in leadership and management that organisations lack knowledge and often do not know what employee empowerment is and how to implement it? More importantly, I am alerting organisations, they need to think about these two important questions – what is the purpose of empowerment and who do they want to empower?  Structures and strategies for employee empowerment alone will not work, organisations need to enable employees to develop a high level of psychological empowerment to be able to embrace the change and deal with customers’ needs in a confident and efficient manner. Psychologically empowered employees and leaders find work meaningful, have a great sense of commitment and enable organisations to sustain organisations’ empowerment programmes.  These employees and leaders must be viewed as assets for organisations who are sources of value creation.

Watch my presentation and find out why people’s ‘Feelings are important’ at work and what this has to do with psychological empowerment?

If you find the subject of psychological empowerment interesting, you can read more about it in Chapter 6 of my book ‘The Psychology of Employee Empowerment. Concepts, Critical Themes and a Framework for Implementation’

Book Review: “This book makes a helpful contribution to employee empowerment in relation to organisational improvement.  Much of the existing literature in this area comes from an operations management and TQM background. Hence the current work’s grounding in psychology gives a much needed new perspective.  This approach gives a more rounded view of employee empowerment both from both theory and practice and avoids overly simple assumptions which often pervade the literature in this area.  The work is effectively supported by Dr Huq’s extensive experience of researching and consulting in this area.  I strongly recommend this text to academics and practitioners seeking a fuller understanding of employee involvement and empowerment leading to increased organisational effectiveness.”
